In 1976, Rodolfo Hernandez became the founder and Director of “Cuerdas Clásicas”. The group was established as a non-for-profit organization interpreting various genres of music including classical, semi-classical, instrumental, Mexican folkloric and estudiantina.
Throughout 45 years, the group has been able to thrive with the generosity of individual donations from the general public, academic institutions, local businesses as well as city grants. The group’s primary mission is to promote the arts, traditions andculture of Latin America through its music for the generations to come by providing music lessons.
Cuerdas Clásicas celebrates their Anniversary the month of November by organizing a gala concert. These concerts have included participants such as Guadalupe Pineda, “La Estudiantina de la Universidad de Guanajuato”, “La Orquesta de Camara de la Universidad de Guanajuato”, “La Rondalla de Saltillo” de la Universidad Autonoma Agraria Antonio Narro, “Trio Minueto”from Durango, “Sones de Mexico”, “Los Sembradores” from Saltillo, and “Mayorales”.
In 2017, Cuerdas Clásicas participated with the Chicago Sinfonietta at Orchestra Hall for a special performance in celebration of Dia de los Muertos.
