Who is PRAA?

Over the past 25 years, the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance has emerged as a premier cultural organization exemplifying arts excellence through music and arts educational programs, performances, and exhibitions to more than 30,000 participants each year. PRAA partners with the Chicago Public Schools and operates through three community centers: PRAA Center & gallery, the Humboldt Park Field House, the Latin Music Project Center, and has a residency office at The Center for Advanced Studies of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.

Our Impact

Annually, over 30,000 youth, students, and audience members explore, learn, and expand their appreciation of Puerto Rican culture and heritage through PRAA. Over half are urban youth, many with few opportunities to engage in music and arts educational programs. Yearly, more than 1,350 attend PRAA’s Emmy Award winning National Cuatro Festival. Most recently, PRAA was named one of Chicago’s Cultural Treasures.

Since 1998, PRAA has instilled music and arts appreciation in over 330,000 youth and audience members. Through PRAA’s Latin Music Project and Studio Arts & Exhibition Programs children and youth begin their path to higher learning aspirations. PRAA’s diverse programs share Puerto Rican music, arts, and culture beyond Chicago, the Midwest region, and the country.

PRAA is positioned to grow the Latin Music Project into a youth music conservatory, build upon its innovative performances and arts exhibitions, while increasing student learning and audience engagement. With increased resources, PRAA will expand appreciation for Latin music and arts and leave a lasting impact on the next generation of musicians and artists.

Our Vision

PRAA is dedicated to fostering community pride through cultural music and arts educational programs, performances, and exhibitions by providing access to high quality artistic experiences. By becoming a national model for pre-conservatory music learning and training we are developing the next generation professional musicians. Through studio arts and high quality exhibitions we provide opportunities for aspiring future artists.

Our Mission

The Puerto Rican Arts Alliance is dedicated to preserving Puerto Rican culture by maintaining our traditions, promoting our arts, providing educational opportunities in arts programming, and cultivating pride in our heritage for future generations.
